Privacy Policy

This policy applies to this website only. It does not apply to the film itself, to third-party sites we link to, or to information you give us in person, by post, or over the telephone.

The Evolution of Korea (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a documentary production. This website exists to share information about the film, to let people follow its progress by email, and to receive underwriting and sponsorship inquiries from organizations. We collect as little personal information as we can and we do not sell it.

1. Who we are

The Evolution of Korea is a documentary production produced by Jamie Hammond. For any question about this policy or about personal information we hold, write to hammondjamie46@gmail.com or call (206) 390-1906. We are the controller of the personal information described here.

2. Information we collect

We only collect personal information that you type into a form and submit. There are two forms on this site.

Follow the production (email updates)

• First name and last name
• Email address
• Optionally, your answer to “What brings you here?” — a single choice from a fixed list

Underwriting and sponsorship inquiries

• Name
• Organization and your title there
• Email address
• Telephone number (optional)
• Whatever you choose to write in the free-text field describing your interest

We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive personal information — including government identification numbers, financial account or payment card numbers, health information, precise geolocation, or information about race, ethnicity, religion, political opinions, trade union membership, sex life or sexual orientation. We do not knowingly collect such information through this website.

3. Information collected automatically

Server logs

This site is served as static files by a hosting provider. Like nearly all web hosts, that provider records standard request information — IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, and browser and device type — for security, abuse prevention, and to keep the site running. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you.

Campaign parameters

If you arrive from a link that carries campaign tags in its address (parameters beginning utm_, or gclid / fbclid), the site stores those tags in your browser’s session storage so that if you fill in a form later we can tell which campaign brought you. Session storage is cleared when you close the browser tab. These tags describe the link you followed, not you.

Fonts

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those files, Google receives your IP address and standard request information. We do not send Google any information you enter on this site. See Google’s privacy policy for how they handle that request.

4. How we use information

• To send you the production email you asked for, and nothing else
• To answer sponsorship and underwriting inquiries, and to have the resulting conversation
• To understand which campaigns and referrers bring people to the site, in aggregate
• To keep the site secure and working
• To comply with law, and to establish or defend legal claims

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We will not use your email address for anything other than the purpose you gave it for.

5. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)

• Consent — for sending you production email updates. You may withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawal does not affect anything done before you withdrew.
• Legitimate interests — for responding to a sponsorship inquiry you sent us, for basic site security, and for aggregate understanding of site traffic.
• Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose information to comply with applicable law.

6. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, and only as needed to provide their service:

• Our email and customer-relationship platform, which stores form submissions and sends the production email. Forms on this site are handled by HighLevel (also known as GoHighLevel).
• Our website host, which serves these pages and keeps standard server logs.
• Google Fonts, as described above, which receives a request from your browser for font files.

We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud. If the production is transferred to another entity, information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we would give notice here first.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

This site sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. It uses your browser’s session storage for the single purpose described in section 3 — remembering campaign tags during your visit. Session storage is not a cookie, is not shared with other sites, and is discarded when you close the tab.

Our email platform may set its own cookies within the embedded form or when you click a link in an email we send, in order to associate your response with your record. If we later add analytics or advertising technology to this site, we will update this policy and add a consent banner where the law requires one.

8. How long we keep it

• Email subscribers — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your record, and then only as long as needed to honour your unsubscribe request.
• Sponsorship inquiries — for as long as the conversation is live and thereafter as needed for our records of the production, ordinarily no more than seven years.
• Server logs — for the short period our host retains them, typically weeks.

9. Your rights and choices

Everyone

Every production email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You may also write to us at any time and ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do so.

EEA, UK and Switzerland

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal information, and the right to data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

California

Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require an opt-out right.

Republic of Korea

If you are in the Republic of Korea, you have the rights afforded by the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), including the right to access, correct, delete and suspend processing of your personal information. Write to us and we will respond.

Other U.S. states

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and others — have comparable rights of access, correction, deletion and portability. The same contact details apply.

We do not charge for responding, and we will not treat you differently for asking. We will verify your request by replying to the email address we hold for you. If you use an authorized agent, we will ask for proof of their authority.

10. International transfers

We are based in the United States and our service providers are located there. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States, where data protection law may differ from the law where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

11. Security

This site is served over HTTPS. Our email platform and host maintain their own security programmes, including access controls and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send sensitive information through the forms on this site.

12. Children

This website is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

13. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Because we do not track visitors across other websites, we take no action in response to Do Not Track signals. We honour Global Privacy Control signals to the extent they apply, though as noted we do not sell or share personal information.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the “last updated” date above. If the change is significant — for example if we begin using analytics or advertising technology — we will say so prominently on this page, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent before the change takes effect for you.
